Could spinal steroid injections treat your chronic inflammation and pain?

Are you dealing with chronic back or neck pain? If so, you may be struggling to find the right treatment option or options to help you epidural injectionmanage your pain. Of course, instead of just managing your symptoms it’s important that you find out what’s causing your symptoms in the first place. This is where our board-certified, fellowship-trained interventional pain management physician Dr. Wilson Almonte comes in. Dr. Almonte and his associate Dr. Lin can diagnose your condition and provide you with a wide range of pain relief options including epidural steroid injections.

Are epidural steroid injections right for me?

Most patients we know want to avoid invasive procedures and surgeries in order to treat their chronic back and neck pain; however, their pain also affects their quality of life. You may benefit from epidural steroid injections if you are experiencing persistent or serious inflammation and pain caused by,

  • Sciatica
  • Spinal stenosis
  • A herniated disc
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Spondylolisthesis

How does an epidural steroid injection work?

This steroid injection makes it possible for many of our patients to experience relief from their back, neck, and leg pain without having to undergo surgery in order to do it. Epidural steroid injections are a minimally invasive method that allows our pain management physician to be able to administer steroids directly into the spine.

As you may already know, corticosteroids are designed to greatly reduce inflammation, which in turn can reduce pain. Certain conditions such as spinal stenosis, which can lead to chronic inflammation of the spinal nerves, can see amazing pain-relieving results with epidural steroid injections.

When will I see results?

Many patients will require more than one set of injections over the course of several weeks in order to see the maximum benefit from this therapy. Of course, some people do report pain relief after just their first set of injections, which can last anywhere from weeks, months, or even years. Your doctor will also provide you with other treatment options such as at-home exercises and physical therapy that can also improve pain and other symptoms, in combination with these injections, for the long run.
